YOUR DOG IS SPECIAL
ACANA benefits dogs of all breeds and life stages. Just like you, your dog is unique and feeding requirements will vary with environment, age and activity. The table below provides a starting point, to be adjusted as needed. Feed twice daily and always keep fresh water available.
† Use a standard 250ml/120g measuring cup. Serve dry or lightly moistened. See your veterinarian regularly. To help maintain freshness, we recommend sealing the bag tightly and storing it in a cool, dry location.
Unique compared to conventional foods, ACANA delivers more calories from protein and fat and fewer calories from carbohydrates, reducing the risk of obesity and promoting your dog’s peak health.
Metabolizable Energy is 3393 kcal/kg (407 kcal per 250ml/120g cup), with 32% from protein, 30% from vegetables and fruits, and 38% from fat.
FISH AND MEAT-BASED FOODS THAT MIRROR YOUR DOG’S EVOLUTIONARY DIET.
The gray wolf is ancestor to all dogs. And while years of breeding has produced hundreds of ‘different looking wolves’, the internal workings of modern dogs and their wolf cousins remain unchanged, so it’s no surprise that their dietary needs remain the same too.
Our award-winning Biologically Appropriate™ philosophy is simple: mirror the quantity, freshness and variety of meats that dogs are evolved to eat, while limiting the carbohydrates and synthetic ingredients that don’t belong in a dog’s natural diet.
Your dog is a carnivore and biologically adapted for a diet rich in fish and meat. Equipped with sharp teeth, a single hinge jaw, and a short digestive tract, domestic dogs are anatomically designed to break down protein and fat from meat.
That’s why we loaded ACANA Pacific Pilchard with 50% pilchard, wild-caught off North Vancouver Island – all deemed fit for human consumption.
We use fresh fish in its most natural and nourishing form. That’s why ½ of the pilchard in ACANA Pacific Pilchard is fresh and 1/2 is dried or oils to provide a concentrated source of nourishing fish protein.
ACANA Pacific Pilchard limits exposure to a single protein source, all in richly nourishing WholePrey™ ratios of fish, organs and cartilage that mimic the natural diet to provide all the nutrients your dog needs to thrive.
In her infinite wisdom, Mother Nature matched the nutrients in whole fish to perfectly meet your dog’s needs. Fish provides protein and fat; organs supply vitamins and minerals; bones and cartilage provide calcium and phosphorus.
Your dog has no nutritional requirement for carbohydrates and his natural diet contains very few, if any. Carbohydrates are widely recognised as a leading cause of obesity and diabetes – yet conventional dog foods often exceed 50% carbohydrate content.
That’s why ACANA limits total carbohydrate content and replaces fast digesting carbohydrates like rice, tapioca and potato with healthy, low-glycaemic fruits and vegetables such as squash and greens. These enter the blood stream slowly, avoiding spikes in blood sugar and decreasing the potential for fat storage.
